WWE made a surprising move Thursday afternoon (Aug. 7) with the announcement that they have released former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio from his contract.
They shared the news on the company website, citing “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee” as the reason he was let go. No other details have been released at this time.
Del Rio, real name Alberto Rodriguez, joined WWE in 2010. He went on to become a two-time WWE Champion, two-time World Heavyweight Champion and winner of the 2011 “Royal Rumble.” He most recently appeared on Monday’s (Aug. 4) “WWE Raw” in a losing effort against Dean Ambrose.
