Former WWE superstar Chris Jericho is among that elite group that has found life in entertainment after wrestling. The most notable example is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who left WWE to become one of the world’s biggest movie stars. Jericho took a different route, touring the world with his band Fozzy.
In fact, he’s found so much success with Fozzy that there simply isn’t time for a return to wrestling now. “I left last July and I’ve been working pretty much non-stop since then between Fozzy tours and doing the new Fozzy record and writing another book and doing my podcasts and a web series,” Jericho says in an interview with the Mirror. “That’s not to say that I won’t go back but I have no plans as of right now, just because I have so much other stuff going on that I’m enjoying.”
Still, Jericho says there is no animosity between himself and WWE, the timing is just off. If it doesn’t sync up again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing either. “You know if I never wrestle again it won’t bother me, I don’t want the big send-off — I don’t want the big farewell match where I’m in the ring crying in front of 70,000 fans because I’m such a hero and my career is done, I don’t look at it that way,” he says. “My career continues to move forward.”
So while the dream of a Daniel Bryan vs. Chris Jericho match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship might sound amazing, it’s just not in the cards at the moment. Unless, in typical Jericho fashion, he’s misleading fans and secretly plotting a return. It wouldn’t be the first time.
