It looks like “The X Factor” winner Melanie Amaro might soon have some familiar company at Epic Records. It appears that her former competitor Marcus Canty is close to signing a deal with the label, this according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Canty, who came in fourth place in the singing competition, recently returned to Los Angeles from his home in Bowie, MD. Since then he’s been working in the recording studio with producer Kuk Harrell. Harrell is a multi-Grammy winner who has worked with A-level talent including Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna and Katy Perry.
Of his studio work, Canty writes on Twitter, “Yea now the work begins! I got something real nice for y’all coming soon trust me it’s gonna be nuts! I’m excited!”
Canty routinely defied the odds on “The X Factor” by beating out LeRoy Bell, Drew Ryniewicz and Rachel Crow while in the bottom two. But he ultimately met his demise in the second-to-last week of the show.
In a Nov. 2011 interview with Zap2it, Canty explains that his musical preference is R&B and that his influences include Bobby Brown and Usher. He adds, “My strong point is my vocals and my ability to perform.”
It looks like he may soon have a chance to demonstrate those skills.
