In one fell swoop, Demi Lovato went from having two artists competing on “The X Factor” Season 3 to being completely knocked out of the competition. Although it was hard to see Rion Paige and Ellona Santiago go, Lovato tells Zap2it that not making it to the semifinals can be a great motivator for her artists.
“On the bright side of the things, I think that people [who go home earlier than they should], like Rion, Sweet Suspense and Ellona, I think it’s actually going to motivate them to work harder so I’m excited to see where they are going to go after this,” Lovato says backstage after the Top 6 elimination show. “It’s not the end.”
Talking to reporters after getting the boot, Paige says something similar. “I mean, it is rough going home, but now I have so many chances to be me, to deliver a performance I want, to go to Nashville and write songs,” she tells Zap2it. “Winning would narrow you down to one opportunity — which is phenomenal and a blessing in so many ways — but now I have the whole world to tackle.”
Performing on “The X Factor” has given Santiago an incredible sense of confidence that she’ll take with her wherever she goes next. “Now that I have been performing every week in front of millions of people I have gotten more confident. I have gotten so comfortable on stage performing in front of millions of people and in front of cameras that people at home see,” she says after her elimination. “It’s just amazing to perform in front of the judges and to be able to get that constructive criticism and be able to improve each and every week and to try to transform into the artist that I want to be. It’s just amazing because now I can reach notes that before I thought I couldn’t, so I have grown so much in this competition.”
Winning isn’t everything anyway. One Direction are the biggest boy band in the world, and they didn’t win their season of the U.K. “X Factor.” Emblem 3 came in fourth last year, and they opened for Selena Gomez and are about to embark on their own headlining tour. “Their careers are huge now and they didn’t even win,” points out Paige. “I can do anything I set my mind to. I am excited. I have to do it now — the time is golden.”
