Sometimes reality shows offer shocking results. Thursday (Dec. 15) wasn’t one of those nights as Marcus Canty was bounced from “The X Factor.”
For many, this outcome was long overdue. He’d spent three consecutive weeks in the “Bottom Two,” fighting off challenges from LeRoy Bell, Drew Ryniewicz and last week’s shocker against Rachel Crow. But the competition was just too much this week and he was sent packing.
During his elimination, the always affable Canty reacted as you might expect, disappointed but appreciative. He was thankful for the opportunity.
“God blessed me so much,” he says moments after being voted off. “It’s not over yet.”
Canty’s fate was seemingly sealed during Wednesday’s (Dec. 14) performances. His version of “I’ll Make Love To You” drew a tepid response from the panel. But things got worse during his dance remix version of “Careless Whisper,” especially from Simon Cowell who trashed the performance.
“That was horrific. The song was absolutely wrong,” Cowell said at the time. He then equated the performance to Las Vegas show circa 1983.
But the reality is the competition and the voices, especially from favorites Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik, were just too much for Canty to overcome. Chris Rene benefited from his showmanship and his ability to pick songs that work with his vocal skills. The three will face off during the two-night finale which airs Dec. 21 and Dec. 22.
The only real suspense of the evening was related to Nicole Scherzinger. Fans of the show are still sore after Scherzinger cast the vote that ended up sending Rachel Crow home. But it appears all has been forgiven as the crowd was enthusiastic during the performance of her new song “Pretty.”
The other musical performance came from Florence + the Machine which rocked out to their song “Spectrum.”
