During an interview with — you guessed it — Extra TV, former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell (sort of) spills some details about his upcoming series “X-Factor,” as well as responds to “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe‘s New York Post comments where he took a couple potshots at Simon’s new project.
“It’s childish, it’s disrespectful. I think bearing in mind what we achieved together, I wouldn’t have liked if anyone else said the same thing,” says Cowell.
In the NY post article, Lythgoe speaks of the pressure which Cowell is under to get “X-Factor” 100 percent right the first time out of the gate because of the high expectations surrounding the high profile premiere. He then goes on to say of “American Idol”: “We’re the No. 1 show on TV right now, and we’ll still be No. 1 in the country next year [when ‘The X Factor’ premieres].”
Cowell spoke about Lythgoe with Extra’s Terri Seymour while in New York being honored with the Founder’s Award at the International Emmy Awards.
When pressed for info about his upcoming “X-Factor” talent competition series, Cowell said: “I’m going to make an announcement within three or four weeks, which is going to tell everyone everything. There will be some surprises.”
He didn’t elaborate but did tease, “OK, one of the judges has quite long hair.”
And it’s worth putting it out in the universe, Zap2it‘s happy to report any actual “X-Factor” intel when it’s ready to be shared with the masses. Understanding Seymour is Cowell’s ex-main squeeze which obviously comes with it’s perks, it’s fitting during this Thanksgiving holiday week to remind him “sharing is caring.” Anyway, we digress.
‘X-Factor” debuts in 2011 while FOX’s “American Idol” premieres Jan. 19 in its new timeslots on Wednesday and Thursday.
