The quest for Twinkies continues.
Amazon has announced that it’s added a pilot based on the 2009 hit zombie comedy “Zombieland” to its slate of original programming. The pilot will be written by the film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with producer Gavin Polone also returning.
Taking the reins from Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and co. are Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh, and Izabela Vidovic. In a statement, Amazon says that the show will follow in the footsteps of the film, “and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home.” In late 2011, it had been reported that FOX was considering adapting the film as a series.
The pilot will be released in tandem with the rest of Amazon’s slate, which includes six comedies and six children’s programs. Unlike Netflix, which ordered its original programming straight to series with a hefty price tag, Amazon is only committed to the pilot stage. Once the pilots are released, the company will use customer feedback (among other things) to decide if it wants to move forward.
Amazon plans to release the slate of programming this spring, though no official date has been announced.
