The trailer for “Zombieland: The Series” has arrived, and beyond the fact that the actors are different, it looks like it’s exploring pretty much the same premise as the 2009 film it’s inspired by. The jokes are the same and the characters are the same, but without the draw of people like Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin, the project as it’s shown here has lost a lot of its charm.
Of course, Amazon is still new to television production so this trailer could show how it’s still warming up as a company. The “Zombieland” trailer is largely unimpressive, with the zombies looking cheesy (after “The Walking Dead’s” fantastic effects, everything looks kid-friendly) and the CGI being mediocre at best. This trailer just underlines all the ways “Zombieland: The Series” is similar to “Zombieland” the movie, but it would have been better served to show how this take on the story stands apart.
Again, this criticism is just directed towards what is shown in the trailer. Since the pilot comes from original “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and producer Gavin Polone (who also directed the pilot), it could be that the upcoming series has the same tongue-in-cheek nature that made the movie such a success. “Zombieland: The Series” stars Kirk Ward, Maiara Walsh, Tyler Ross and Izabela Vidovic.
