According to US Weekly, which confirmed the split with a rep for the couple, the pair is parting ways with no ill will. “It was mutual and amicable,” a source tells the magazine. “There was no third party involved.”
Indie dream team Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Gibbard married quietly in Seattle in 2009. Gibbard recalled meeting his future wife in a September 2011 New York magazine cover story about the fall TV darling. The two were introduced by their mutual manager.
“I’d seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful,” Gibbard says in the profile. “I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me.”
Neither Deschanel nor Gibbard has spoken out about the split, but we expect a very poignant Death Cab for Cutie album to arrive in stores within the next year.
