ABC Family is jumping into pilot season with orders for two drama pilots. Both shows -- "The Fosters" and "Twisted" -- will begin production in the spring and will air in the summer of 2013.

"The Fosters" tells the story of a multi-ethnic family made up of a mix of foster and biological children. All of the kids are being raised by two moms.

The show will be executive-produced by Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige. The cast includes Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Jake T. Austin, Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez.

"Twisted" (formerly known as "Socio") may be the darker of the two series. It is described as a one-hour mystery centered on a charismatic but troubled 16-year-old boy. After he reconnects with his two female childhood best friends, the boy becomes a prime suspect in the murder of a fellow student.

The executive producers of "Twisted" are Gavin Polone, David Babcock and Adam Milch. The series will star Avan Jogia, Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Kimberly Quinn, Sam Robards, Ashton Moio and Denise Richards.

In a press release from ABC Family, the network president, Michael Riley said, "ABC Family is synonymous with groundbreaking storytelling and iconic characters. These new shows will bring the same depth, heart, close relationships and authenticity that our viewers have come to expect and will pair nicely with our already established pop culture hits."
