'About a Boy' casts Tony Hale as Marcus' dad

tony-hale-sag-awards-2014-gi.jpg"About a Boy" now has a dad for its titular kid, Marcus. Tony Hale ( "Veep," "Arrested Development") will play the absent father to the awkward boy.

Hale's character is named Hugh Womple, according to EW.com. Womple is not a character from the 2002 Hugh Grant movie, but Marcus' dad did appear in the 1998 novel of "About a Boy" by Nick Hornby. There is no information yet on when or how often the dad might appear.

Set to premiere on NBC Saturday, Feb. 22, "About a Boy" is a comedy centered on the relationship of an immature single guy, Will ( David Walton), who befriends his neighbor, a socially inept adolescent named Marcus ( Benjamin Stockham). The series will also star Minnie Driver as Marcus' mother, Fiona.

The Emmy-winning Hale currently co-stars in "Veep," where he plays the vice president's personal aide, Gary Walsh. He previously played Buster Bluth on "Arrested Development."
