'Agents of SHIELD' gains a new supervillain, episode 12 synopsis released

"Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" will soon be getting that more Marvel that was promised. A new supervillain will be introduced in the upcoming episode 12 "Seeds."

"Lost" alum Dylan Minnette has been cast as a young Donnie Gill. As Marvel fans will know -- particularly "Iron Man" ones -- Donnie Gill is the alter ego of the villain Blizzard. In the comics, his abilities (which involve cold and water manipulation) are derived from a suit created by Justin Hammer.

It would be easy to make that connection work in "Agents of SHIELD," since Sam Rockwell played Hammer in "Iron Man 2." Surely the repercussions of his work are still being felt in the world that "Agents of SHIELD" populates. Though Rockwell has said he's game to reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems more likely that David Conrad's Ian Quinn will play a similar role instead. He is noted as reprising his role in the upcoming "Seeds."

Meanwhile, new information about the second episode after "Agents of SHIELD's" midseason break has been revealed. "Coulson and May uncover startling information about Skye's past, while the team is swept into a storm at SHIELD Academy," the synopsis reads.

While the return of "Agents of SHIELD" in Jan. 7's "The Magical Place" seems to be promising the reveal of information about Agent Phil Coulson's death, maybe "Seeds" will finally explain what's up with Skye. It would be very frustrating if this was another situation where Coulson and May find out info about her past, but the audience is still left in the dark.

"Agents of SHIELD" returns to ABC on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m.
