Alexis Wright, Maine Zumba instructor, charged with running prostitution ring
Alexis Wright, a 29-year-old Zumba instructor living in Maine, was doing a lot more than just working out in her Kennebunk studio. It turns out she actually was running a prostitution ring along with her alleged business partner and occasional lover Mark Strong Sr., 57.
Wright, who is a single mother, pleaded not guilty to 106 counts of prostitution, violation of privacy, tax evasion and other charges for allegedly providing sex for money. Strong pleaded not guilty to 59 counts of promotion of prostitution and violation of privacy.
In addition to these claims, prosecutors gathered more than 100 hours of video and close to 14,000 screen shots from seized computers that show Wright engaging in sexual conduct with people including Strong, CBS News reports. The identities of those Wright serviced aren't being kept a secret, either: townspeople say doctors, lawyers, law enforcement officials, a TV personality and other recognizable names are all on the list of Wright's clients.
"The state's in over its head. This case isn't ready for prosecution," Strong's lawyer Daniel Lilly said at the hearing Tuesday (Oct. 10). Wright and Strong are currently both free on personal recognizance.
