Alice Cooper is bent out of shape over the current rock and roll music movement and those who listen to it. When asked by Fuse about bands like Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers being seen as the big names in modern rock, he isn't pleased.
"I just feel like this whole generation maybe need to all eat a steak," he says, "Maybe they just need to quit eating vegetarian food and get out there and get some blood pumping in their system." Sounds like Alice has been spending some time with Ted Nugent, king of meat.
He continues, "Rock and roll is not about 'Happy, happy, happy. Everything's okay. We're The Lumineers, let's clog dance!'" Alice says there's is definitely a place for that type of music, and believes that The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons are both great bands, "but it's not rock and roll, don't call it rock and roll."
Alice thinks that labeling those bands as such is "an offense" to the rock and roll genre. He says that rock bands don't have accordions or flutes in them (He makes an exception for Jethro Tull) and that rock "comes from your guts, comes from your groin."
If you're interested in Cooper's idea of rock and roll, he's currently on tour with Marilyn Manson, or you could just catch him on the golf course. Check out Alice's interview below:
