'American Horror Story: Coven' 'Boy Parts': She rings like a bell through the night

american-horror-story-coven-misty-lily-rabe.jpg"American Horror Story: Coven" puts two intriguing storylines into motion with "Boy Parts" -- a witchy war and a "Groom of Frankenstein" idea. Plus there's a sex scene in a fertility storyline that is either sexy or total nightmare fuel, depending on how you feel about snakes.

The War

In her quest to be young and beautiful forever, Fiona is holding Madame LaLaurie captive in the house in order to find out what happened to her. It turns out Marie Laveau gave her an immortality elixir, rounded up a mob, strung up her daughters and husband and then buried LaLaurie alive.

Fiona hunts down Marie Laveau, who is a running a salon in the 9th ward. There's an interesting conversation about a slave in Salem being the one who brought magic powers to the U.S., meaning all Caucasian witches are descendants of this slave and her powers that she got from a Shaman in Africa.

It's an interesting tension between Marie and Fiona -- and that's even before Marie knows that Fiona dug up Madame LaLaurie. We can't imagine she'll be very pleased with that development.

Feed My Frankenstein

Zoe is convinced Kyle was meant to be her fella, so she and Madison take a trip down to the city morgue and use a resurrection spell to put Humpty Dumpty back together again and bring him back to life.

It doesn't work at first and Madison bails, but it would seem true love's kiss is just the ticket. Suddenly Zoe suddenly finds herself with a scared, angry monster on her hands, so she ends up finding help from swamp goddess Misty. Misty is rocking both a Stevie Nicks look and some Stevie Nicks tunes and is going to heal Kyle for Zoe.

And in case you're wondering, the Stevie Nicks reference -- the "white witch" -- is because Nicks was always followed by rumors that she was a witch or into Wicca. But she has never said she practices any religion, though she does admit to having an interest in the mystical.

Why'd It Have to Be Snakes?

Cordelia is having trouble conceiving a child. Her husband Hank lets her cast a spell that involves some dark stuff and then snakes are born out of eggs as they have sex in the sacred circle. That baby will definitely not be any kind of demon spawn. Definitely not.

Thoughts & Tidbits

  • The scene between Angela Bassett and Jessica Lange positively sizzled, so here's hoping those two share a lot of screentime in the episodes to come.
  • While we aren't sure we're on board with Zoe and her Frankenstein thing, we definitely trust Evan Peters to blow us away with the material he's given.
  • There can never be enough Stevie Nicks songs. Maybe LaLaurie and Laveau can duet on "Go Your Own Way" at some point. Heh.
  • So, Laveau still has her minotaur lover. That's ... gross.

There were a lot of good lines this episode:

Fiona
: "If you haven't got the godd*** brains to know that when strangers come asking questions, we close ranks, then I fear our line is truly at an end. ... I couldn't toast a piece of bread with the heat they were putting on you. ... We, even the weakest among us, are better than the rest of them. ... The point is -- in this whole, wide, wicked world, the only thing you have to be afraid of ... is me."

Marie: "For your sins, Madame LaLaurie, you are damned to live forever. To never know the release of sweet death, to never reunite with loved ones in the realm beyond but instead to be alone, sealed up in your unmarked grave for all eternity, listening to the world go on around you, even until that world is no more."

Zoe: "Did we just marry the devil, 'cause I don't know if I'm down with that."
