'American Idol' adds Lukasz 'Dr. Luke' Gottwald for Season 13 - report

lukasz-gottwald-american-idol.jpg"American Idol" has had a little trouble filling the judges panel for its upcoming 13th season, with the internet abuzz with rumors that various artists had turned down the gig.

But now E! News reports that in addition to Keith Urban officially returning and Jennifer Lopez reportedly returning, Lukasz Gottwald, a.k.a. Dr. Luke, has joined the party as well.

Who's Dr. Luke? He got his start in the music scene as the lead guitarist for the "Saturday Night Live" house band, but he really rose to prominence as a songwriter/producer on Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone."

Other hits Dr. Luke was behind include "I Kissed a Girl," "Dynamite," "Who Knew" and "Tik Tok."

It's an interesting choice, to be sure. Dr. Luke has an impressive music industry pedigree, but he's also a virtual unknown to TV audiences. How will viewers respond to him?

Does picking a non-star help turn the focus back on the contestants and keep it off the judges? Guess we'll have to see. "American Idol" returns Jan. 15, 2014 on FOX.
