'American Idol': Fans in 11 cities can watch the season 12 premiere early

Can't wait until the Jan. 17 premiere of "American Idol"? You may be in luck -- fans in 11 cities across the country will get a chance to watch the first episode of season 12 in movie theaters on Jan. 9.

Where can you watch this premiere event? If you're in Los Angeles, you can watch everything live and in person at Royce Hall at the University of California - Los Angeles. The movie-theater showings will take place live in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Detroit, Boston, Nashville, Washington DC, Atlanta and Houston.

After the show, Ryan Seacrest will host a Q&A session with the season 12 judges, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Not in one of those cities? Sorry. But you can watch a livestream of a judge Q&A from anywhere. That's where the Internet comes in.

The theater and live viewings are free and entry is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you want to attend, go to www.idolrsvp.com to submit your name and contact information. If you want to ask submit a question for the judges, you can do so on Twitter or on Facebook. The feed for the livestream will be at www.americanidol.com.

The event begins at 7pm ET, 6pm CT or 4pm PT. The following venues are available for the viewing:

If you miss the theater or live airings, there are only 7 days more to wait before the official premiere of "American Idol" season 12. The show begins on Wednesday, Jan. 16 (8-10pm) and continues on Thursday, Jan. 17 (8-10pm).
