'American Idol' finale: What will Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez sing?

phillip-phillips-jessica-sanchez-american-idol.jpgWhen Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez take the Nokia Theater stage for the "American Idol" Season 11 finale performance show on Tuesday, May 22, we don't know exactly what songs they'll be singing. But thanks to "Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe, we now know what the theme is.

Lythgoe says on his Twitter account that the final two singers will perform "1.Their favorite song of the series. 2. A song chosen by Simon Fuller. 3.Their individual #new-single."

While we can't even begin to speculate what Fuller will pick and we have no idea what the post-"Idol" singles will sound like, we can go through each finalist's body of work to figure out what they'll perform at the finale.

For Jessica, a big diva number is the way to go. "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" would be a great choice, except she sang that just two weeks ago and it might be overload. Same with Phillip's "Volcano" or "We've Got Tonight."

We loved Jessica's version of "Stuttering," but we think she needs to pull out the big guns in the finale and we'd suggest she go with her Top 13 week show-stopping rendition of "I Will Always Love You." We've got goosebumps just thinking about it.

For Phil, a similar throwback might be nice, so his audition and Top 13 song "Superstition" would be a perfect choice. If he wants to go more contemporary, he'll have to choose a song lots of people know. Maybe his PP-ified versions of "U Got It Bad" or "Movin' Out" would work.

What do you think the final two should choose for their finale songs?
