'American Idol' finalist Diana DeGarmo joins 'Carrie' cast
Via Playbill, it seems the musical adaptation of 1976 horror movie "Carrie" may be coming to Broadway, an "American Idol" in tow. Diana DeGarmo has been cast as "Chris" for this industry reading/performance. Chris is the girl who masterminds Carrie's fake Prom Queen win and subsequent pig's blood shower. Why, Diana DeGarmo! You naughty girl!
This is not DeGarmo's first foray into musical theatre -- she made her Broadway debut in 2006 as nerdy Penny Pingleton in "Hairspray" and is currently playing the role of Sarah, the sexy librarian love interest of Toxie in "The Toxic Avenger."
"Carrie" the musical first debuted in 1988 at the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. It was penned by "Fame" songwriters Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford and "Carrie" screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen. The three original writers are reuniting with Tony-winning producer Jeffrey Seller to put on this industry reading.
We hope all goes well and this show heads to Broadway!
