'American Idol' hopeful Angela Martin's mother missing

angela-martin-320.jpg"American Idol" hopeful Angela Martin's mother Viola has gone missing -- one year after her father was killed right before Angela participated in the show's Hollywood Week.

According to a piece by FOX Chicago, Angela Martin's mother Viola had Christmas dinner at their house on Saturday, Dec. 26, then left to drive to her other daughter's house but never arrived.

Viola's car was found Thursday (Dec. 31) near the Chicago suburbs of Riverdale and Dixmoor, which is nowhere near her Saturday destination.

This is Angela's third go-round with "American Idol." She auditioned unsuccessfully for season 7 with Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and then last season made it to the Hollywood round, which took place shortly after her father was killed. Martin did not advance out of Hollywood.

Angela can be seen in the promos for "American Idol's" ninth season (video below). She told the show last year during the Hollywood round that she is auditioning in the hopes of making a better life for her daughter with Rett Syndrome.

We hope Angela succeeds in her quest. What a genuinely heartbreaking story.
