'American Idol': I'm hoping Jennifer Lopez is not leaving, says Nigel Lythgoe

nigel-lythgoe-jennifer-lopez-american-idol.jpgThere have been big changes recently for "American Idol" Season 12, including the departure of judge Steven Tyler and the (most likely) departure of judge Jennifer Lopez, which executive producer Nigel Lythgoe addresses at the Television Critics Association press tour FOX session Monday morning (July 23).

"What I said to Ryan [Seacrest] was I was really upset to hear of Steven leaving us and the possibility of Jennifer leaving us," says Lythgoe. "She did say 99% ... I'm hoping that 1% means she's not leaving."

In regards to his own status as "Idol" EP, Lythgoe says, "I can't make any comments about my future with 'Idol' at the moment. We're in negotiations."

What do you think, "Idol" fans? Do you think there's a chance J.Lo sticks around?

UPDATE: Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment at FOX, says he thinks Nigel's comments were more fueled by a personal wish taht J.Lo not leave. Reilly says, "I think I can say it's 100% Jennifer won't be coming back to the show." Reilly also announced that Mariah Carey is the newest "Idol" judge.
