'American Idol': Phillip Phillips still needs surgery but doctors didn't tell him to quit

phillip-phillips-health-tour.jpgDespite reports saying that Phillip Phillips needs emergency surgery on his kidneys and that his doctors advised him to quit "American Idol" for health reasons, Phillips tells reporters the day before the Season 11 finale that he's doing exactly the same as he was the last time Zap2it updated you on his health issues.

"It's kind of been going on ever since the show started, so nothing's really changed," he says. "Some days are just good and some days aren't. I'm pushing through like I have been and I'm just going to give it my all."

And those reports about his doctors telling him to drop out? Totally false. "No, you can't believe everything," he says. You heard it, folks -- straight from Phillips' mouth. Nothing has changed.

As the 21-year-old singer told Zap2it in early May, he'll go under the knife once the finale is over but he'll be recovered in time for tour. "Yes, it's probably going to go down. It's a pretty good size surgery and a lot of time down but you gotta do what you gotta do."

Phillips competes against 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez in the two-part "American Idol" finale airing Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23 on FOX.
