'American Idol' report: Steven Tyler's bandmate says, 'The ink is dry' on deal

tom-hamilton-steven-tyler-getty.jpgAerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has been a rumored new "American Idol" judge since the announced departure of Ellen DeGeneres three weeks ago. Earlier Wednesday (Aug. 18) both The Hollywood Reporter and E! reported that it is a done deal.

Now Tyler's Aerosmith bandmate is saying the same thing. Bassist Tom Hamilton (pictured, left) tells the New Jersey Star-Ledger, "Steven is doing `American Idol.' The ink is dry on that ... Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don't know if `American Idol' will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler."

Rumors continue to fly about who might round out the judges' table with Tyler and Randy Jackson, who is supposedly the only judge staying on. Jennifer Lopez has been a popular name bandied about, but Shania Twain has also been in the mix of late. FOX has no official comment at this time.
