'America's Next Top Model' renewed for cycle 20 to air next summer on The CW
"Top Model" premiered as a summer series back in 2003 on UPN. Subsequent editions have all aired "in season" (fall or spring), but the series has been on a downward slide in the ratings since cycle 11. The current 19th cycle is airing in the TV wasteland of Friday nights and has been averaging around 1.1 million viewers.
A summer relaunch could help revive the series, or at least give The CW something to air besides reruns. The network had limited success this summer with reality series "Breaking Pointe" and "Oh Sit!"
UPDATE: The CW's official renewal announcement revealed one twist for the 20th cycle: For the first time in "Top Model" history, male models will join the competition.
