Ann Curry leaving the 'Today' show?

ann-curry-leaving-today-gi.jpgAlthough Ann Curry has only been the co-anchor of NBC's "Today" show for a year, having taken over Meredith Vieira's role at the morning program, a new report says that the network is in negotiations to replace her and is considering hiring Savannah Guthrie in her place. Matt Lauer is staying put, having recently signed a new contract.

According to the New York Times, after "Today's" ratings woes and very public criticism of Curry's hosting style and rapport with Lauer, NBC is negotiating a new role for Curry at the network -- possibly a foreign correspondent position or something else slightly more journalistic than "Today's" morning TV fare.

Curry has hired a high-powered lawyer skilled in negotiations of this type, and the deal should be done before the Olympics so the new team can be in place by the time the "Today" show flies to London. The deal could be announced as soon as next week.

Though Guthrie, current co-host of the 9 a.m. hour, is the likely heir to the anchor seat, Meredith Vieira's name has been tossed around. The NY Times reports that Vieira has told friends she doesn't want to return to "Today" full-time.

Should Curry leave "Today"? Do you think it's fair to blame her for the show's declining ratings?
