'Arrested Development' Rewatch: Season 2, episode 17 - 'Spring Breakout'

Welcome to the "Arrested Development" Rewatch. Leading up to the release of Season 4, Zap2it will be taking a look back at the 53 episodes that made the show one of our most beloved TV comedies. We continue with episode 17 of Season 2, "Spring Breakout," which first aired April 10, 2005. Watch the first three seasons of "Arrested Development" on Netflix.

After Lucille ruins a business deal by mixing alcohol and pain medication (for an alcohol-induced headache), Michael decides she needs to go to rehab. Kitty shows up to confront George Sr. about her desire for power and a baby. This means that Lucille needs to leave rehab to have a drinking contest with Kitty while Michael and Gob rescue their father and switch evidence coolers. Maeby goes back to the banana stand to learn how the kids are talking these days (and to torture George Michael). Meanwhile, Lindsay and Tobias confront a filmmaker about his spring-break videos, "Girls with Low Self Esteem."

GIF-worthy scenes:

Bluth Company status: Thanks to Lucille's intoxicated entrance (and later Kitty's flashing/threats), the Bluth Company fails to get funding from Cal Cullen. This isn't good.

Notable guest stars: Zach Braff as Phillip Litt and Dick Van Patten as Cal Cullen

Milestones: We get to see Lucille's first chicken dance.

Huge mistakes: In addition to the repeated abuse of alcohol by several people, George Sr. laments, "Never promise Crazy a baby."

Most sexual tension: George Michael makes several slips that reference his love for Maeby while they work together in the banana stand.

Allusions to Tobias being gay: When filming "Men with Low Self Esteem," Tobias says, "Come on! Let's see some bananas and nuts! Oh, perhaps we should just pull their pants off."

Best narrator commentary:

"It was the first taste of alcohol Buster had had since nursing."

  • "Due to poor acting, the burden of the story was placed on the narrator ... He was actually found in a hole near the house, but this inattention to detail was typical of the laziness the show's narrator was known for ... Real shoddy narrating. Just pure cr*p."
  • "But this perplexed the 'Scandalmakers' audience, due to the unfocused nature of the narrator's explanation."
  • "Notice it wasn't something the narrator said."
  • "And that's how you narrate a story."

Next on "Arrested Development": "Lucille gets some disturbing information ... And Kitty finds what she's been looking for." George Sr.'s sperm was in the decoy cooler left by Michael and Gob. This makes Lucille very mad and Kitty very happy.
