Ashton Kutcher's 'New Year's Eve' takes the top spot in the weekend box office

New-Years-Eve-Movie-Poster1-correct-crop.jpgThe not-so-great reviews for the star-studded rom com "New Year's Eve" didn't seem to phase moviegoers this weekend. The film, starring Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michelle, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Effron, Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert De Niro might be at a horrendous 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it took the top spot this weekend with $13.7 million.

The newly skinny Jonah Hill's comedy, "The Sitter" took second place with $10 million, followed by the it-just-won't-die "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" (otherwise known as the longest title for a film, ever) slid into third with $7.9 million. "The Muppets" followed with $7 million. "Arthur Christmas" took in $6.6 and Hugo, $6.1.

Will "New Year's Eve" be able to hold onto it's lead next weekend? With "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" opening next week, it will be given a run for it's money.
