Australian sprinter Daniel Batman killed in a car accident
Batman competed in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprinting events, though he did not have a great showing at the Olympics. His greatest achievements came when he was a little older, taking sixth place in the at the 2003 Indoor Championships and winning the Australian national men's 200 meters in 2005 and 2006.
Batman leaves behind two children with ex-wife Nova Peris, a fellow Olympic sprinter, and a 1-year-old child with new partner Natalie Sainsbury.
Australian sprinter Matt Shirvington said on Twitter, "100m - 10.19s, 200m - 20.44s, 400m - 45.02s. Daniel Batman was the best all-round sprinter Australia has ever seen. Rest in peace, mate."
