Avery Johnson fired as coach of Jay-Z's Brooklyn Nets

Johnson was leading a 2012 team with more than $80 million in player payroll, and expectations were high.

Part of that payroll is going to Kim Kardashian's estranged husband, Kris Humphries, who's currently on the bench with an abdominal strain.

Sports Illustrated reports Johnson's firing comes on the heels of public criticism by point guard Deron Williams.

The Nets are owned by Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov. In a statement, about the termination, Prokhorov says, "The Nets ownership would like to express thanks to Avery for his efforts and to wish him every success in the future," owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement."
