Azaria Chamberlain: Dingo focus of new investigation into Australian baby's death
Now, a new investigation into the death -- the fourth in 30 years -- will re-focus on the dingo theory, according to the Associated Press. The coroner attached to the new inquiry, Elizabeth Morris, announced that she would "examine new evidence provided by Azaria's parents that dingoes attack children."
Since 2001 there have been three reported attacks on children by dingoes, one fatal.
In 1988, Meryl Streep won an Academy Award nomination for her role as Lindy Chamberlain in "A Cry in the Dark."
Streep's portrayal was also used for comic fodder on NBC's "Seinfeld," which made the phrase "Maybe the dingo ate your baby" a staple of the pop-culture catch-phraase lexicon:
So much so that even "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Oz (a werewolf played by Seth Green) named his fictional band "Dingoes Ate My Baby."
