'Basketball Wives' star reveals rape and abuse

basketball-wives-tami-en.jpgOn last night's episode of "Basketball Wives" Season 4, cast member Tami Roman revealed disturbing details of childhood abuse, including being raped twice, assaulted and tortured. Roman is no stranger to angry outbursts on the on the series, and now she's sharing private revelations and a more vulnerable side with the audience, that might explain better why she's "been a fighter for most of my life in one way or another."

Episode 3 plays out in typical "Basketball Wives" form: Some catfights, some cocktails, some fundraisers and some spa sessions. But the trivialities are absent in the final scene.

Roman visits a therapist and confesses that she is working on anger management issues. "I don't want to be mad all the time," Roman comments. "I know what I'm angry about."

During the session, she breaks down in tears and reveals the shocking violence and sexual abuse that she endured during her childhood:

"I was raped twice," Roman begins. "I've been held up at gun point, someone threatening to blow my brains out. Torturing me for four days. People have beaten me up, people that I thought loved me."

Audiences might remember Roman from one of her first TV roles as a cast member on "The Real World: Los Angeles" in 1993. During that season, an incident between Roman and a male cast member resulted in his being evicted from the house, because of its sexually inappropriate and threatening nature.

"It's going to be a work in progress," she comments on the anger management therapy, while fighting back tears. "I don't like to talk about it. So, one step at a time."

Here's to hoping that Roman can find the recovery and closure that she deserves.
