Bethenny Frankel on miscarriage: 'I blamed myself'

And now for the first time, she's ready to open up about the traumatic experience of dealing with a miscarriage at 41.

"Because my first pregnancy had been complicated, and because I was over 40, the doctor told me that I was 'high risk' and needed to take it easy. So I took it easy. I had to," Bethenny writes in the July issue of Glamour.

"'Is it because I'm busy? My lifestyle? Is this my fault?' I asked. 'Absolutely not, absolutely not,' [the doctor] replied before I could dump all my neuroses on his desk. 'You're 41. You had bleeding. There's nothing you could have done.' And I hadn't done anything," she writes. "Since I'd found out, I'd been lying down for an hour or two every day and letting others take up the slack. But I blamed myself -- of course I did."

Bethenny first revealed the news on "Today" in February.

"We were pregnant with a second baby and at eight weeks I miscarried," Bethenny says on the show. "That was a very emotional experience and it had a lot of different things that came with it. Thinking about women who can't have their own baby, even the first baby, I'm lucky."

Bethenny found out just before an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that she and husband, Jason Hoppy, would have had another girl to join the couple's daughter Bryn, 2.

"I fell to pieces," she writes. "I was picturing Bryn with a little sister. Two little girls in rain boots."
