'Big Love': Weber gaming and a wedding in the wake of death

biglove-320.jpgOh, it's so good, it's so good, it's just so good!

Clearly I have a way with words, but I simply don't know how to say it better... or more succinctly, anyway.

When I watch "Big Love," I find myself wondering again and again if there has ever been a series so perfectly crafted? From the casting to the clothing to the sets to the subtle looks and blatant gestures all written and acted by what is clearly one of the most talented group of people ever assembled together?

I'm gushing.

I know.

But if you watch "Big Love," I don't have to tell you.

And if you don't, I want you to be aware.

As the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series returns for its fourth season this Sunday (Jan. 10), we find Bill Henrickson, his three wives and nine children on the precipice of real change.

Where to begin?

There is the grand opening of the Weber Gaming casino they've spent two seasons working toward, the disappearance of "The Prophet" Roman Grant (otherwise known as Nicki's corrupt, despicable father) and the federal investigation into his whereabouts.

But more importantly, there is Barb's struggle to find her new identity now that she's been excommunicated from the church she was born into because of her choice to be a polygamist. There is the struggle by Margene to juggle the growing responsibilities of being a successful wife and mother and businesswoman. There is Nicki's struggle to suppress her extramarital feelings for the man she unexpectedly fell in love with last year, not to mention her hatred for her first husband whom she was forced to marry as a child. And that barely begins to scratch the surface of all that's going on.

Bill and Barb's eldest, Sarah, who has never accepted the polygamist Principle is engaged to be married. And she doesn't want to be sealed in her father's church. In marriage is her chance to finally close the door on the lifestyle her parents drug her into so many years ago. But how does she do that without closing the door on her family too?

All this and I haven't even mentioned the murder plot, the sick and volatile marriage of Bill's parents and Nicki's in-the-closet brother who believes his destiny is to succeed Roman as Prophet but who can't seem to keep it in his pants!

And I will leave it at that.

You need something to look forward to on Sunday night? Something to combat the Sunday blues?

"Big Love" is back, my friends.
