Billy Ray Cyrus calling off divorce
"I've dropped the divorce," Cyrus says during the interview. "I want to put my family back together ... Things are the best they've ever been."
No mention of how precisely he and erstwhile estranged wife Tish patched things up. But that's not the important part. This is:
"I feel like I got my Miley back," he adds. "I feel like we're the daddy and daughter we were before Hannah Montana."
Back in October, ma and pa Cyrus issued a statement announcing plans to end their 17-year-marriage -- a move that some blamed for Miley's escalation to a "Girls Gone Wild" level of celebrity notoriety (tattoos, Salvia smoking, etc.).
Cyrus takes on that topic, too, in response to a question from Sherri Shepherd about photos that surfaced last week of Miley stumbling -- and presumed drunk -- in front of a New York club. This is how Miley, who maintains she was sober, explained the photos to dad:
"I held my hand up to block the flashes out of my eyes because I couldn't see to take a step ... It's embarrassing. It hurts my feelings. It was a lie. I wasn't drinking. I wasn't drunk. I was just trying to get to my car after a meeting [with songwriter Dr. Luke].
For now, though, Billy Ray is happy to be back in the Cyrus family fold. And, despite what he said in a GQ interview, Cyrus says, "Hannah Montana didn't ruin my family. Fame did."
