'Bones' star David Boreanaz: I cheated on wife Jaime Bergman [Updated]

jaime-bergman-david-boreanaz.jpgUPDATE: TMZ is reporting that attorney Gloria Allred -- lately seen as the mouthpiece for Tiger Woods' mistresstes -- represents the unnamed woman and demanded a six-figure payment from Boreanaz. The actor's own lawyer, Marty Singer, said no way, and Boreanaz then took the information public to defuse the issue.

The site also notes that the woman did not have a long-term relationship with Boreanaz.

"Bones" star David Boreanaz says he cheated on his wife, Jaime Bergman, and is coming clean about it now because he was undergoing "some sort of extortion."

"Our marriage has been tainted with my infidelities," Boreanaz tells People. "I just want to be open and honest. I was irresponsible."

Bergman, an actress ("Son of the Beach") and former Playboy Playmate, and Boreanaz have been married for 8 1/2 years and have two kids together. As you might expect, the revelation of his affairs has taken a toll their marriage: "We're working on repairing what has been damaged so badly," he tells the magazine.

Boreanaz says he's going public with his infidelity because a former mistress had retained a lawyer and threatened to go public with the information. (Call that the Letterman Strategy of getting out in front of a story.)
