Box office: 'Breaking Dawn,' 'The Muppets' land on top

breaking-dawn-new-2.jpgThe third time's just as charmed as the first two for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1," as the movie managed to top the box office for the third week in a row. The film grossed $16.9 million this weekend (Dec. 3-4), which means it's fallen less over three weeks than any of the previous three "Twilight" installments. So far, the movie has made an astounding $247.3 million.

In second place, "The Muppets" managed to hold their own, banking $11.2 million this weekend and $56.1 million total. Next week, it should become the highest-grossing Muppet film ever, surpassing "The Muppet Movie's" $65.2 million.

Rounding out the top 10 were "Hugo," which slid into third place with $7.6 million, "Arthur Christmas" with $7.3 million, "Happy Feet Two" with $6.0 million, "Jack and Jill" with $5.5 million, "The Descendants" with $5.2 million, "Immortals" with $4.4 million, "Tower Heist" with $4.1 million and "Puss in Boots" with $3.0 million.

"Shame," the limited-release art house film starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan, made a respectable $361,000.
