Box Office: Dwayne Johnson and 'Snitch' knock 'Identity Thief' from No. 1 spot

snitch-dwayne-johnson-michael-k-williams-summit.jpg Dwayne Johnson, the actor formerly known as "The Rock," is No. 1 at the weekend box office. Johnson stars in "Snitch," the action-thriller about a man whose son stands wrongly accused in a drug deal. True to form, the Rock goes undercover as a DEA agent in the film that also stars Susan Sarandon, Benjamin Bratt, and Michael K. Williams, also known as "Omar" from "The Wire."

"Snitch" brought in an estimated $4.1 million for Summit Friday, knocking last week's No. 1, Universal's "Identity Thief" down a peg to No. 2. The widely-panned Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman vehicle was just $40,000 short of first place, bringing its two-week total to $83.7 million. Relativity's "Safe Haven" fell more than 50%, taking in $3.5 million for a gross-to-date of $41 million.
