Box Office: 'Riddick' wins with $18.7 million, but falls short of expectations

Coming in second was "Lee Daniels' The Butler" with $8.9 million, bring its box office total to nearly $80 million so far. "Instructions Not Included" was third for the weekend with $8.1 million, followed by "We're the Millers" with $7.9 million and "Planes" with $4.2 million.

Other notable openings include the documentary "Salinger," which played at only four theaters but earned over $90,000, and Peter Fonda's "The Ultimate Life," which opened at just over 400 theaters and took in $625,000.
