Box Office: 'Salt' mines $12.7 M, can't shake 'Inception' from top spot

salt.jpgAngelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio are facing off at the box office with their respective thrillers and so far DiCaprio's "Inception" leads the way, though only by a slim margin.

Jolie's spy adventure "Salt" took in $12.7 million Friday (July 23) but couldn't quite catch "Inception" at $13.2 million. "Salt" is on track for a roughly $35 M opening weekend.

Third behind the dueling psychological adventures is the animated comedy "Despicable Me," boasting the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Russell Brand, with in a respectable $7.3. The other big new release this weekend, the Selena Gomez-Joey King movie based on the Beverly Clearly book "Ramona and Beezus," took fourth place with $3 million, while the Nicolas Cage-Jay Baruchel vehicle "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" rounded out the top 5 with $2.9 million.
