Box Office: 'Taken 2' opens strong; 'Frankenweenie' can't top 'Transylvania' with kiddie crowd

liam-neeson-taken-2-box-office.jpgThe Friday box office estimates are in and the Liam Neeson action flick "Taken 2" is poised to have a huge weekend, especially considering how paltry the box office has been the last couple months.

"Taken 2" earned $18.6 million Friday night, nearly tripling the take of the second-place "Hotel Transylvania," which brought in $6.5 million. "Pitch Perfect" was third with $4.9 million, followed by "Looper" $3.5 million.

The only other new movie that opened in wide release is "Frankenweenie," which was fifth at $3.3, so apparently with the kiddies, Dracula > Frankenstein.
