Box Office: 'Ted' breaks original R-rated comedy record while 'Magic Mike' overperforms

channing-tatum-magic-mike-shirtless.jpgThis weekend's Box Office success continued after Friday's highly profitable haul -- in fact, this Friday is the first ever when four films all brought in over $10 million. Those four were "Ted," "Magic Mike," "Brave," and "Madea's Witness Protection."

As the weekend continued, "Ted" held onto its lead, grossing $54.1 million and securing the record for highest-ever opening weekend for an original R-rated comedy, a record previously held by 2009's "The Hangover," which earned $45 million in its opening weekend. It's also the third best opening weekend for an R-rated comedy behind only "The Hangover Part II" and "Sex and the City."

"Magic Mike" also over-performed at $39.2 million, trumping the opening weekend performances of all three "Ocean's" movies for director Steven Soderbergh. Audiences were 73% female. Let's just say it's really good to be Channing Tatum right about now.
