Box Office: 'The Help' is still on top, but Hurricane Irene keeps the numbers down

the-help-box-office.jpgFriday's low box office numbers continued through the weekend of Aug. 26-28 thanks to Hurricane Irene keeping millions of people on the East Coast home instead of possibly out at the movies. The entire weekend gross was down roughly 26% from last weekend and almost 20% from the same weekend last year.

"The Help" retained its top spot with $14.3 million, according to studio estimates. Zoe Saldana's "Columbiana" was second with a meager $10.3 million, followed by "Rise of the Plnaet of the Apes" with $9 million.

Katie Holmes-Guy Pearce horror flick "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" dropped from third place after Friday night to fourth place with only $8.7 million. And the third new release "Our Idiot Brother" took in $6.6 million for fifth place.

We'll post the full Top 10 when the numbers are available.
