Box Office: Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible 4' stays on top

mission-impossible-ghost-protocol2.jpgThe fourth "Mission: Impossible" movie starring Tom Cruise has held its grip on the domestic box office, earning $11 million Friday (Dec. 30), which pushes it past the $100 million mark for total earnings domestically.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" also had a strong Friday, earning $7.65 million to put it at $117.7 million total. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" was third at $7.1 million, which puts it over $80 million domestically so far.

In fourth place was "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" at $5.35 million, followed by "We Bought a Zoo" at $4.9 million and "War Horse" at $4.7 million. "The Adventures of TinTin" was seventh at $4.4 million. Rounding out the Top 10 are "New Year's Eve" ($2.3 M), "The Darkest Hour" ($1.7 M) and "The Descendants" ($1.1 M).

"The Iron Lady," the Margaret Thatcher biopic starring Meryl Streep that opened in limited release this weekend, earned $76,000 across four theaters.
