underworld-awakening-sony.jpgThis weekend's box office duel was between the fighting vampires of "Underworld: Awakening" and the Tuskegee Airmen of "Red Tails." Alas, the "Underworld" sequel managed to cleanly beat the George Lucas-produced historical drama, bringing in $25.4 million to "Red Tails'" $19.1 million.

Rounding out the top five box office earners for the weekend of Jan. 20-22 were last week's No. 1, "Contraband," in third with $12.2 million, the wide release of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" in fourth with $10.5 million and another butt-kicking female-fronted film, "Haywire," in fifth with $9 million.

Here's the rest of the top twelve:

6. "Beauty and the Beast 3D," $8.6 million
7. "Joyful Noise," $6.1 million
8. "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," $5.5 million
9. "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," $4.8 million
10. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," $3.8 million
