Bruno Mars opens up on mother Bernadette Hernandez's death

bruno-mars-mother-dies.jpgAfter the unexpected passing of his mother Bernadette Hernandez from a brain aneurysm on Saturday (June 1), Bruno Mars has broken his silence.

On Thursday night, the singer took to his Twitter account, writing, "So thankful for all the love during the most difficult time in my life. I'll be back on my feet again soon. That's what mom wants, she told me."

Hernandez, who passed away at 55 in Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, immigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines. A former hula dancer and singer, she nurtured her son's career and interest in entertainment. Mars and his siblings performed as a family band in Honolulu, where he became known for his Elvis impersonations as a child.

Mars is due to begin a world tour on June 22 in Washington, D.C. No word yet on whether those plans will be disrupted in light of the tragedy.
