Bryant Gumbel on Ann Curry's 'Today' ouster: Matt Lauer unfairly blamed; 'It's a big-boy league and you move on'
On Tuesday's "Katie," Katie Couric's former "Today" colleague Bryant Gumbel stops by. In this sneak peek clip, they talk about Couric's transition into lead anchor and what happened last year with Matt Lauer and Ann Curry.
"There were a lot of missteps along the way. I feel badly that Matt wound up getting blamed for the missteps because it wasn't his doing. I just didn't get the whole thing. I also don't get why it's such a big deal when somebody in this business is let go," says Gumbel.
"It happens to all of us at some point. It's a big-boy league and you move on," he adds. "But it became a big deal and in my opinion, the wrong guy got blamed, but that's my opinion. What do people expect?"
Interesting. Do you agree -- did Matt Lauer get unfairly blamed for Ann Curry's ouster at "Today"? And should Curry have just pulled on her "big-boy pants" and sucked it up?
