Can Lionel Richie make a country crossover?

lionel-richie-gi.jpg Lionel Richie was a mainstay of the 1970s and '80s R&B music scene -- first with his Motown band, The Commodores, then as a successful solo artist. Now Richie is ready to break new ground with an album of country duets, set for a March 2012 release.

Richie will give a taste of his twanged-up act at the annual CMA Awards on Nov. 9, reports Reality TV Magazine. He'll team up with Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker (himself a successful crossover from pop/rock band Hootie and the Blowfish). One song will be a country-fied version of Richie's 1986 hit, "Dancing on the Ceiling."

His full album of duets will pair Richie with Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Shania Twain and Kenny Chesney, among others.

Here's the recently released track listing:

"You Are" (Blake Shelton)
"Say You, Say Me" (Jason Aldean)
"Stuck on You" (Darius Rucker)
"Deep River Woman" (Little Big Town)
"My Love" (Kenny Chesney)
"Dancing on the Ceiling" (Rascal Flatts)
"Hello" (Jennifer Nettles)
"Sail On" (Tim McGraw)
"Endless Love" (Shania Twain)
"Just for You" (Billy Currington)

What do you think? Can Richie make it in the country arena?
