Cassie Steele to return as Manny Santos in 'Degrassi' spin-off

cassie_steele_highland_gardens.jpgHeads up Degrassi fans! The adventures of Manny Santos aren't quite over yet. Cassie Steele will be reprising her Degrassi role in the new series from Epitome Pictures, "Highland Gardens."

The series will revolve around a group of Canadians looking to make it big in Los Angeles living together at the Highland Gardens Motel which was the subject of the 2004 documentary, " Camp Hollywood."

CTV picked up the show back in December, but at that point it was unclear whether or not it would be a spin off.

"It might or might not be a 'Degrassi' spin-off," producer Stephen Stohn tells The Star Scoop, "we're still deciding."

It looks like the decision has been made. Currently IMDB lists Steele as the only cast member and confirms she will be playing the ever sassy Manny Santos once again.

No word on whether or not TeenNick has picked it up to air in the US, but with the recent cancelation of the Hollywood-centric "Gigantic," there is definitely room in their schedule for the show. With production set to start in late August, the only question is: Can Craig Manning be far behind?

( Update: It appears that while Cassie will be one of the stars of "Highland Gardens," she will not be reprising her role as Manny. Instead, she will be playing a new role of Abby, a naïve Toronto actor who is ready to fight to get to the top.)
