Charice comes out as gay: 'Yes, I am a lesbian'

In her native tongue, Charice goes on to say, "Now I feel free. I can go out of the house without fear and certain that I'm not stepping on anybody's toes."

She adds in Filipino, "Mas maluwag ang pakiramdam ko ngayon," which roughly means "I feel more relaxed now."

Charice also confesses that while she feels more free, she's estranged from her mother and grandmother right now. "I left our home because that's what I had to do for now."

She's staying with a friend right now and thanks her "second family" for accepting her and says she hopes her mother and grandmother will be able to sort things out.

"To those who can accept me, thank you very much," Charice finishes. "We are all equal, whether you are gay or straight."

She ended the interview by dedicating two songs to her family, one English song with the line "Please understand me" and one Filipino song with the lyrics, "kailangan mo'y tibay ng loob kung mayroong pagsubok man... ang pangarap mo ay makakamtam basta't maghintay ka lamang," which roughly translates to, " You need courage if there is any test ... you can achieve any dream as long as you wait."
