'Cheers' stars Rhea Perlman and Kirstie Alley reunite for TVLand pilot
Created by TV comedy veteran Marco Pennette ("Ugly Betty," "Animal Practice"), the series will follow a Broadway diva (Alley) confronted with the arrival of a long lost son after the death of his adopted mother. Perlman will play Alley's assistant and friend, who encourages her boss to reconnect with her son, according to Deadline.
Alley is currently competing on "Dancing with the Stars: All Stars," while Perlman has a cameo role in Oscar-buzzed indie "The Sessions."
The actresses previously shot a pilot together for ABC last season about a boisterous Italian family, but that was not picked up. We expect a better outcome for this one, given TV Land's growing slate of original shows and success with bringing familiar faces back to TV (most notably Betty White and company in "Hot in Cleveland"). After all, who wouldn't want to recapture some of that "Cheers" magic?
